Abstract

Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) remains internationally the most serious problem in both social and medical realms. The use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) has enabled many people living with HIV/AIDS (PHA) to live longer and suffer fewer complications from the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The potential negative consequences of poor adherence have highlighted the need for effective strategies that will optimize the adherence of PHA to their ART. The purpose of this study is to systematically review the existing scientific literature on the role and relationship between AIDS patients' self-efficacy and health behaviors as a vital indictor which will benefit AIDS patients receiving ART and teams of health personnel providing care for Thai AIDS patients in fulfilling the necessary health behaviors appropriately and continually through their own abilities. This study is based on Bandura's theory of self-efficacy, which will lead to a proactive strategy for these patients.
