Abstract

การวิจัยทางสังคมศาสตร์มีฐานความคิดมาจาก ๓ สำนักแนวคิด คือ แนวคิดแบบปฏิฐานนิยม แนวคิดแบบการตีความ และแนวคิดแบบสัจนิยม แต่ละแนวคิดทำให้นักวิจัยต้องเลือกใช้วิธีการวิจัยที่สอดคล้องกับแนวคิด คือ แนวคิดแบบปฏิฐานนิยม มุ่งเน้นใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ แต่แนวคิดแบบการตีความต้องใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ส่วนแนวคิดแบบสัจนิยม สามารถใช้ได้ทั้งวิธีการที่เป็นเชิงปริมาณและเชิงคุณภาพ  Research in the social sciences may by conducted within one of three philosophical schools of thought: (1) positivism (2) interpretivism and (3) realism. The positivist approach involves the quantitative method; the interpretivist approach involves the qualitative method; the realist approach involves a blended approach that is both qualitative and quantitative. The researcher needs to choose a philosophical approach and accompanying methodology that suits his or her research purposes.
