A Story of Chinese Newspapers of Overseas Chinese in Thailand

Abstract

หนังสือพิมพ์จีนในประเทศไทยถือกำเนิดขึ้นเพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการของกลุ่มชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีน และกลุ่มชาวจีนอพยพที่อาศัยอยู่นอกแผ่นดินจีน โดยเริ่มเกิดขึ้นในพื้นที่ที่มีกลุ่มชาวจีนแต้จิ๋วอาศัยอยู่ นับ ตั้งแต่ปี ค.ศ. 1903 เมื่อหนังสือพิมพ์จีนฉบับแรกในประเทศไทยได้เริ่มก่อตั้งขึ้น ได้มีหนังสือพิมพ์จีนก็ทยอยเปิดตัวตามกันมามากมาย หนังสือพิมพ์จีนในประเทศไทยมีบทบาทสำคัญโดยทำหน้าที่เป็นสื่อกลางในการนำเสนอข่าวสารของประเทศจีนให้แก่ชาวจีนในประเทศไทย และเชื่อมโยงวัฒนธรรมจีนของชาวจีนโพ้นทะเลเข้ากับสังคมไทย แต่เพราะการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางการเมืองแต่ละยุคสมัย ความพร้อมของบุคลากรที่มีความรู้ทางภาษาจีน ช่องทางการจำหน่ายและกลุ่มผู้อ่านที่จำกัดอยู่เฉพาะในแวดวงของกลุ่มชาวจีน รวมถึงการพัฒนาของสื่อเทคโนโลยีในปัจจุบัน ทำให้หนังสือพิมพ์จีนที่ยังยืนหยัดจวบจนถึงปัจจุบันมีเพียง 6 ฉบับเท่านั้น ได้แก่ 1) หนังสือพิมพ์จีน Xingxian Ribao (星暹日报) 2) หนังสือพิมพ์จีน Shijie Ribao (世界日报) 3) หนังสือพิมพ์จีน Jinghua Zhongyuan Lianhe Ribao (京华中原联合日报) 4) หนังสือพิมพ์จีน Zhonghua Ribao (中华日报) 5) หนังสือพิมพ์จีน Xinzhongyuan Bao (新中原报) และ 6) หนังสือพิมพ์จีน Yazhou Ribao (亚洲日报)  Chinese newspapers in Thailand were created in response to the need of Thai-Chinese people and Chinese immigrants who live outside China. It was first created in a Chaozhou community. After the first creation of Chinese newspaper in Thailand in 1903, many new Chinese newspapers gradually appeared. The most significant role of these newspapers is to be the media that deliver Chinese news to Thailand and to be a tool to link the cultures of the two countries together. However, due to many political changes in Thailand, lack of personnel with Chinese language capability, the limitation of sales and readers to only Chinese people in Thailand, and the development of media technology in Thailand, Chinese newspapers have become less popular. There are only six Chinese newspapers surviving in Thailand which are 1) Xingxian Ribao (星暹日报) 2) Shijie Ribao (世界日报) 3) Jinghua Zhongyuan Lianhe Ribao (京华中原联合日报) 4) Zhonghua Ribao (中华日报) 5) Xinzhongyuan Bao (新中原报) and 6) Yazhou Ribao (亚洲日报).
